Shabtai Zvi Star of David Symbols

The Shabtai Zvi Star of David Symbols

In the explanation of the exhibition Nechama Lvendel - Nadav Bloch "Dönmeh - Following Shabtai Zvi" at the "Tova Osman" gallery in Tel Aviv it was written that the municipal gallery of Ulcin (Monte Negro State, formerly part of Yugoslavia on the border with Albania) has a a niche on the third floor surmounted by two Star of David symbols carved in stone. According to locals this place was a gathering place of Shabtai Tzvi and his followers. Shabtai Zvi was exiled to Ulcin and had been buried there. His grave is located indoors and is considered a holy place.

Star of David Lod Mosaic

Stars of David as a framework for animals on a Roman Mosaic Floor from the 3-4 th century C.E. discovered in Lod, Israel, by Miriam Avissar in 1996.Size: 19x9 square meters.
Although the star seems round note the hexagon surrounded by six triangles, which is a form that is acually seen in every
empty" Star of David which is composed of two equilatteral triangles, but here a Guilloche separates between the hexagons and the triangles.

Berber Six pointed Stars

Six pointed Stars above mysterious marks carved on a Berber stone lamp bought recently by David Mimon while visiting the Sahara Desert, Morocco. If you can decipher this writing you are invited to write to Eli Eshed, who published an article about this lamp in his blog: "the universe of Eli Eshed". It seems to me that the Hebrew word on the right is "cancer".

Russian Yellow Badge Inquiry

Copyright: Marianne G Petrino-Schaad 2009
Marianne wrote to me:
I was wondering if you have seen an authentic yellow star patch with the word for Jew in Russian embroidered on it?
I wondered why someone would make a patch that uses Russian?
I got this patch in June at an antique show. The seller had it in her possession for 30 years. She had bought it from a man in Carlisle, PA, whose father was in WWII and a member of the Nazi party. I have donated it to the Holocaust Museum in Washington DC. They believe it is a fake patch.
I wonder why anyone would make a fake patch using Russian, instead of German, so it got me to thinking:
could there be an original model?
If so, where would it have come from?

Six Pointed Star on an Ancient City Wall

If a city is an organic entity, its walls are like the skin of a human being, and inscriptions on this wall are like tattoos. There are 4 Six-pointed star on the walls of Jerusalem, Israel, and one on the wal of Byblos, Lebanon. Here we see another one on the city wall of Diyarbakır, largest city in southeastern Turkey,
which was built before the Roman era, but it is not clear when was this star inscripted.
